I started with my skin condition approx 3-4 years ago with an itchy rash on my fingers.

After a visit to the GP I was prescribed Betnovate - which seemed to ease the condition for a time. Gradually as the months went but my hands got worse - the skin was drying out and deep cracks were forming across my knuckles which were very painful. Along with this was a dreadful itchy rash. The dermatologist at the local hospital said that I was suffering from severe dermatitis - probably related to my job as a cabinet maker. I was then given more steroid based creams - which seemed to work for a short while but then seemed to make my skin peel off at an alarming rate.

Over the last few years, and after numerous prescriptions from the hospital dermatologist and my local GP for such creams as:- Fucibet, Dermavate, Umavate, Eurax, Betnovate, Xepin and lots and lots of E45 cream (amongst other things I've picked up from health shops etc). I seemed to be getting worse - not better. Earlier this year, my hands were so painful that I needed to wear gloves almost 24hrs a day. The skin was hanging off in large pieces - really thick pieces, and there were deep cracks on my finger ends, various parts of my hands and now my wrists also. My finger nails had also started to drop off.

I was either itching like crazy or suffering terrible pain. To my dismay, the rash was now affecting other parts of my body. My neck was as red as a tomato and very rough and itchy. My arms and legs had itchy blistery spots on them which were itching now and again. The soles of my feet were also affected especially my heels which had deep painful cracks in them but were also very itchy at times. The final straw was when my face became affected. Red and very swollen with a terrible itch all over. The doctor advised that I use plenty of Umavate cream - it didn't make any difference. I looked like a monster.

I looked so bad that my local pharmacist recommended that I try a Chinese herbal remedy - a herbal tea plus a jar of face cream. Never again!!! I was worse than ever. The GP suggested I go into hospital for a more extensive course of treatment, it steroid tables - but there could be side effects and I would need to be checked regularly. I was really against this as it sounded so unnatural. I was absolutely desperate by now when there was a glimmer of hope, praise the lord!! A fired of mine taped your programme from Sky TV advertising Salcura. I was a bit wary about mail order TV products - but was ready to try anything. The product seemed very expensive at the time but I thought that if it helped my condition it would be worth the cost. After using Salcura for a few weeks there was definitely a marked improvement. I didn't seem to be itching so much and the cracks in my skin were healing up quickly. Everyone comments on how much better I look. My face is almost back to normal now. My scalp which was snow white and crusty and cracking all over is completely healed - so are my ears which were in a bad mess.

My neck which was cracked and weepy is much much better.

My hands - which have been the worst problem have toughened up and look and feel much easier and better - although it will perhaps take a little longer for them to get right - as they were so severe. I no longer wear the gloves. My arms and legs are much better - with just the odd itches now and again, and my heels which were in a real mess are almost completely healed. (healed heels). Overall, although not completely cured yet, I now have lots more good days than bad days. I feel that I have part of my life back again. Thank you Dr Schiele for showing such a genuine concern for my complaint. I have learnt more about skin conditions in our telephone conversation than in 3 years visiting my local hospital.
